Animal Control
Contact: 636-528-4646

Any dog upon the streets or public areas must be kept on a leash and under the control of the accompanying person. No dog shall be permitted to run at large within the city limits. Each household is allowed no more than two dogs. In the event a female shall have a litter of puppies, the puppies shall be weaned and removed from the premises no later than eight weeks from the date of birth.

All dog owners shall provide proof of vaccination and apply for a dog license (tag) by July 1 of each year. The tag must be constantly worn by such dog. Troy has a part-time animal control officer. Unlicensed dogs or dogs found running at large shall be picked up by the officer and impounded in the shelter for a period of not less than five days. Upon the presentation of a current license tag, a receipt for a dog license for the current year and a summons issued by the Police Department, the animal control officer shall release the dog to its owner.
