Chamber Endorses Proposition A -
Road and Bridge Sales Tax Continuation

3.10.06

Click here for the Lincoln County Road & Bridge Tax Brochure

After initial support by its Board of Directors, the membership of the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce voted at their March General Membership Meeting to endorse the Lincoln County Road and Bridge Sales Tax initiative on the April ballot.

Proposition A is for a continuation of the current road and bridge one-half cent sales tax for ten years. Since its inception, the road and bridge tax has helped fund the aggressive asphalt program, the construction/maintenance of over fifty-five bridges, maintenance of the county’s gravel roads, the vegetation management program and the Elsberry Special Road District. Currently, funding from this tax comprises over 35% of the county’s Road and Bridge budget. This is a continuation sales tax that has been in place since 1986. If the tax passes all services will continue without interruption, including over 120 miles of gravel road scheduled for paving in the next five years.

Should the tax fail to pass, the asphalt program will cease and the maintenance of the county’s approximate 700 miles of roadway will be reduced or delayed along with the potential for job layoffs of county employees.
